Announcement and Reception for Wyoming’s Next Poet Laureate


IMG_2389Governor Matt Mead will announce Wyoming’s next Poet Laureate and sign the Executive Order on Monday, July 11 at 2 pm in the Barrett Building in Cheyenne. This will be the 8th Poet Laureate. Wyoming’s current Poet Laureate, A. Rose Hill of Sheridan has been in the position for the past year. The Poet Laureate is appointed by the Governor and is tasked with writing and reciting poems at various state and legislative events, as well as performing outreach duties such as working with K-12 classes, teaching workshops, and advocating for the written and spoken word.

A reception to celebrate the new Poet Laureate will be held in the Arts Council office, Barrett Building, 2nd Floor, following the signing of the Executive Order on Monday. The public is invited to attend and meet Wyoming’s next Poet Laureate and learn more about this honorable appointment. Light refreshments will be served.
