From Artists in the Environment:

July visitors to Grand Teton National Park, as well as local residents, will have many opportunities to watch artists in action.

On Saturday, July 11, from 3-6 p.m., five distinguished member of the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters will chose locations at Schwabacher Landing, referencing the beautiful landscape views to interpret their visions in paint. Participating painters: Dan Dernovich, Kaye Franklin, Lanny Grant, John Hughes and Kathy Wipfler.

The French expression, “en plein air,” means “in the open air” and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors. The introduction of paints in tubes, as well as field easels, in the 1870s increased the popularity of “en plen air” painting. The choice of paints and easels make for interesting components to the individual artistsʼ set-up.

Satuday’s venue encourages the public to ask questions about equipment and the creative muse. Bring a chair, watch for awhile, and enjoy the splendor of Grand Teton National Park.
