Call for applications: Taft-Nicholson Center Artist-in-Residence Program

The Taft-Nicholson Center Artist-in-Residence Program offers dedicated artists a supportive and transformational environment to further their creative development. In a remote setting dedicated to the historical integrity of the land and the preservation of natural habitat and wildlife, artists can experience unencumbered time to allow for thoughtful reflection and development of their work.

The 2015 Artist-in-Residence Season begins on July 1 and ends on September 30. It is expected that residencies will last a month but artists are encouraged to specify how much time they need for their project. Nothing shorter than two weeks will be considered.

Artists from diverse multidisciplinary fields are encouraged to apply. This includes visual artists, composers, writers, dancers, photographers, filmmakers, playwrights, and textile artists, among others. One residency award is reserved for a student applicant.

As an official extension of the University of Utah campus, the Taft-Nicholson Center works to bridge the arts and humanities with the sciences. It is located an hour from West Yellowstone, Montana, adjoins the Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge often referred to as the most beautiful wildlife refuge in the United States.

“The Centennial Valley is a place of inspiration and restoration.  It is home to the trumpeter swan brought back from the brink of extinction.” says Terry Tempest Williams, the Annie Clark Tanner Fellow in Environmental Studies at the University, who teaches graduate classes at the Center each summer.
