Call for public art submissions: Laramie County Community College

The Wyoming Arts Council announces that two calls for entry are now open for two new buildings currently under construction at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne.

A new Flexible Industrial Technology Building will house several programs: diesel technology, engineering technology, expanded welding fabrication, and construction management. For this call, the committee is particularly interested in work that pays respect to tradespeople, the history and importance of trades in Wyoming, and the future of trade industries in the state. Artwork should merge the “grease and dirty hands” of the trades with the high-tech aspects of today’s careers. The committee is interested in work that connects the innovative design of the building with the advancement of the programs being offered at LCCC, and should inspire and motivate students to want to work in these fields. This building is anticipated to open in the fall 2016.

A second building, the Student Services and University Center, will be the new focal point for student services on campus and will house the bulk of student services, including advising, admissions, disability services, the bookstore, a conference center that will also be accessible for use by the community, classroom space, and a floor dedicated to the University of Wyoming for extension services, and a floor dedicated to science labs. The selection committee is particularly interested in work that expresses the new phase and forward direction of the college, work that represents the LCCC identity, reflects the purpose of the building, or that expresses students’ paths at the college. The committee encourages work that is dynamic and that incorporates or alludes to LCCC programs. This building will open in spring 2017.

There is a separate call for entry for each building available on CaFE – callforentry.org. The deadline for applications is midnight on Dec. 31, 2015. These are national calls.

Artists’ submissions will be reviewed and final selections will be made by a committee appointed by the Wyoming Arts Council and Laramie County Community College. The committee for this project includes members of the LCCC faculty and staff, administrators, and members from the various departments using the building, community members, artists, the architect, and Wyoming Arts Council board members.
