Description:

In the broadest sense, I have always been an artist. Art is an ongoing process for me. I was raised in the Midwest where my childhood was shaped by a sense of wonder for nature, it’s colors, it’s forms and textures. I explored how I could take these observations and make them into something else. A love for Art was developed and my life-times challenges began. My first local art exhibit in 4-H won the title of state champion at the state fair. High school lead to an art scholarship for college and the reality of the Military draft kept me working to produce better artwork.

I continued to listen, learn and observe in order to develop a deep communication that goes into my artwork. It’s a kind of metaphor between the past or future and the being in the present moment. Each piece of artwork is meant to encourage the viewer take a little longer look. I hope to evoke a memory that may inspire the senses.

I use water-based mediums because water is easily available
and the paints can be transported simply to different
locations. ¬I wander and discover new arrangements as light and shadows uncover nature’s gifts. It’s the colors between light and dark that allows one to see and uncover these contrasts and compositions.

The landscape is what I look to as subject, it may be by giving
only its’ impression without loosing the construction of nature
itself. I look for to use passages through my work to guide the viewer through
forms and colors. Landscape painting is my way of preserving a
place. It is my way of believing it will be there tomorrow. It is my
way of contributing our presence. I hope that my paintings might
symbolize an answer to the viewer.
