Description:

As a Wyoming resident for a total of 45 years, Karen Barton's artwork reflects the wildlife, culture and people of this state. She's made a career of portraiture since 1988, and still considers portraiture her main artistic genre, working mainly in pastel and oil. During the last 10 years she has developed her skills in acrylics, exploring bolder approaches with color, texture, and style and moving outside the boundaries of the realism that is classical portraiture. Her subjects are often animals or children. "It's the eyes that contain life, expression, and a range of emotion. They coax me into putting them on canvas to look back at me. No other subject, however beautiful, is as compelling." Barton lives in Buffalo, and her work is presently represented by:
Sage Community Arts in Sheridan WY
Expressions Gallery in Sheridan WY
Hitching Post Art Gallery in Buffalo WY
Gallery on Main in Dayton WY
Art Nest Gallery in Spearfish SD
