Wyoming is home to many talented and creative writers who work in a range of styles and genres. The Wyoming Arts Council strives to provide programs and services to the poets, novelists, essayists, cowboy poets, and spoken word artists of the state. Those individuals and the organizations and groups that support their work are encouraged to create a public profile on the new Wyoming Artists & Venues Directory.
The Creative Writing Fellowships were recently restructured to award one fellowship each in the genres of poetry, creative nonfiction, and fiction. Applications are submitted online through Submittable, which is free for writers. These fellowships are posted in the spring and announced in the summer. The Neltje Blanchan and Frank Doubleday Writing Awards are separate awards and are available in the fall and announced in the winter.
The Professional Development and Career Advancement grant is available to those working in the literary arts and can be used to support a variety of professional projects. This grant is made available on May 1 and applications are accepted and reviewed until funding is expended. Visit the grants page for full details.
The Wyoming Arts Council is honored to work with Wyoming’s Poet Laureate. The Poet Laureate is a prestigious and honorary position appointed by the Governor. Wyoming’s current Poet Laureate, Eugene Gagliano of Buffalo, was appointed in July 2016.
