Award winners of the second annual Plein Air in the Park event held at Sinks Canyon State Park were announced at the awards ceremony, art sale, and reception on Sun., Sept. 15.
Best in Show was awarded to Gayle Barnett (Lander) for her watercolor, “Rolling Down the River.” Second place was awarded to Rosie Ratigan (Lander) for her oil painting, “Mountain Majesty,” and third place was given to Marie Britting (Thermopolis) for her oil painting, “First Light.”
A People’s Choice Award was voted on by attendees at the reception and the painting, “Popo Agie Tumble” by Virginia Moore (Jackson) was selected. Winners received a cash award.
In the Teen Division, Olivia Dixon (Rising Fawn, GA) took home first place and Emily Anderson (Lander) received second place honors. The Teen Division winners received a cash award and a gift certificate to the Lander Art Center.
Two Judge’s Choice awards were given to Shawna Pickinpaugh (Lander) for her watercolor, “Morning Light” and to Jenny Reeves-Johnson (Lander) for her painting, “Sinks Canyon Summer.”
Plein Air in the Parks is a collaborative weekend event presented by Wyoming State Parks, the Wyoming Arts Council, and the Lander Art Center. This painting and drawing competition pairs talented artists with beautiful locations.
At the conclusion of the weekend, artists enter up to two pieces into the juried competition and may enter additional works in the sale. This year’s jurors were Sarah Trembly and Mike McRann.
