The 35th Annual Red Desert Audubon Wildlife Art Show opens Friday, March 7, at the Lander Art Center with a public reception from 6-8 p.m.

This exhibition celebrates artwork depicting residential or migratory flora and fauna. Wyoming’s plants and wildlife inspires all generations to create artwork. The art making process has the ability to deeply connect the artist to the source of their inspiration. When the inspiration is our natural world, the artist translates what they observe and experience into a tangible and visual connection to that natural environment. This year the Lander Bake Shop will be hosting the exhibition in partnership with the Lander Art Center and the Red Desert Audubon Society.

The show is curated through an open call for entries to all artists state-wide. Entrants are grouped by experience or age in four levels: professional, adult aspiring, teen aspiring, and youth ages 12 and under. 25 pieces in three of the four categories were entered.

Artists: Gwen Bruner, Susan Grinels, Rosie Ratigan, Clare Kwasniewski, Nancy Ebbert, Adlyn M. Even, Brooks M. Even, Sierra Lloyd, Jenny Bautz, Emma Gist, Diantha States, Virginia Moore, Sallie Wesaw, Nancy Zupence, Billie Dutcher, Jerry Antolik, and Doris Synder.

Judges this year are Wyoming Indian High School Art Instructor and artist, Cleve Bell and Nature Conservancy Spatial Ecologist, Holly Copeland. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places will be awarded in each category and a best in show award will receive cash awards. A People’s Choice winner will be awarded based on votes by the public. Cast your vote during the opening or by March 21.

This art exhibition was founded in 1980 by May Raynolds, TC Allen, and Joyce Jansa as a fundraiser for the local Audubon chapter, the Red Desert Audubon. This exhibition has developed into an integral part of the Lander Art Center exhibition programming.

This opening is free and open to the public. The Lander Bake Shop is located across from the Art Center at 259 Main Street, Lander.
