Apply now for a Wyoming Arts Council Creative Writing Fellowship


The Wyoming Arts Council is accepting applications for the 2018 Creative Writing fellowships. Fellowships will be awarded in the categories of Poetry, Creative Nonfiction, and Fiction, for a total of three fellowships.

Applications are accepted online via Submittable at https://wyomingartscouncil.submittable.com/submit. The application deadline is August 16.

The annual Creative Writing Fellowships are awards of merit, based on a writer’s body of work, and honoring Wyoming’s literary artists whose work reflects serious and exceptional writing. Recipients will receive a $3,000 fellowship, as well as a travel stipend to read their work at one of the statewide literary conferences.

Jurors for this year are:

Kelly Luce (Fiction) is the author of Three Scenarios in Which Hana Sasaki Grows a Tail (A Strange Object, 2013), which won Foreword Review’s Editor’s Choice Prize for Fiction, and the novel Pull Me Under (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2016). After graduating from Northwestern University with a degree in cognitive science, she moved to Japan, where she lived and worked for three years. Her work has appeared in New York Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, Salon, O, the Oprah Magazine, The Southern Review, and other publications. She received an MFA from the Michener Center for Writers at UT Austin in 2015. She is a Contributing Editor for Electric Literature and a 2016-17 fellow at Harvard’s Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.

Justin St. Germain (Creative Nonfiction) is the author of the memoir Son of a Gun, which won the Barnes & Noble Discover Award in Nonfiction and was named a best book of 2013 by Amazon, Publishers Weekly, Salon, and Library Journal, among others. His writing has recently appeared or is forthcoming in The New York Times, Tin House, DIAGRAM, Territory, and Barrelhouse. He received his MFA from the University of Arizona and was a Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford. He lives in Oregon and teaches at Oregon State.

Bill Tremblay (Poetry) is a poet and novelist. His work has appeared in nine full-length volumes including Crying in the Cheap Seats (University of Massachusetts Press), Shooting Script: Door of Fire (Eastern Washington University Press) which won the Colorado Book Award, and most recently Walks Along the Ditch: Poems (Lynx House Press). He has received fellowships and awards from the NEA, the NEH, the Fulbright Commission, and the Corporation at Yaddo. His work has been featured in many anthologies including Pushcart Prize, Best American Poetry, and Poets of the New American West. He directed the MFA in Creative Writing Program at Colorado State University, founded the Colorado Review, and served as its chief editor for 15 years.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and Wyoming residents, living within the state’s borders for at least ten months of the year since July 1, 2016. Applicants must not be a full-time student pursuing high school, college, or university art-related degrees.
