Artist reception for "The Enchanted Garden" exhibit set for June 6 in Lander

Sculptor Tracey Dobbins of Black Swan Fine Art will present 30 elegant mixed media garden ornaments in her upcoming show called “The Enchanted Garden.”  These colorful glass, ceramic, and metal works will be on display and available for sale through the month of June at the Lander Bake Shop located at 259 Main Street, open 6:30 am-5 pm weekdays and 8 am-2 pm on weekends.  An artist reception will be held Saturday, June 6 from 10 am-noon.  The show consists of floral inspired assembled works that are mounted on copper, as well as custom mosaic house numbers.  This show is designed specifically as garden art.  Each ornament tilts upwards to face the sun just as real flowers do.  They are made to withstand the elements and add charm to any garden all year round.  For questions and sales, please call 307-349-5598.

“Doing this kind of work means constantly keep my eyes open for unusual pieces no matter where I am,” said the artist.  “Having collected fodder over many years from all over the world in antiques shops, vintage stores, estate sales, and even yard sales gives me plenty to compose with.  I am especially drawn to depression glass that is becoming more and more rare.  People often bring me things that have a unique story or meaning to them making the items even more fun to work with.  Individually these components are pretty mundane and boring, but when carefully paired together with just the right pieces, they take on a presence.  My typical ornaments have between 5-7 pieces when assembled, while some sculptures can have as many at 16 pieces incorporated in them.  There’s a certain amount of luck involved when using only found objects.  Working with handmade items of glass or ceramic is literally a balancing act, as many are not level or machined to perfection like mass produced items are…but that just adds more challenge and character to these one-of-a-kind works guaranteed to start conversations in any garden.”
