Black History Month presentation: “The Other Side of the Mountain”

FIRST BLACK STUDIES MONTH MEDIA SYMPOSIUM“THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN”

The Sankofa African Heritage Awareness, Inc., and the Laramie County Community College History Department in Cheyenne offer an opportunity to view and discuss African-American life via a prized collection of periodicals, pamphlets, rare books, posters, pictures and films highlighting paramount and relevant distances of the African-American Journey from the Atlantic Middle Passage to Pres. Barack Obama. Journey through moments in time from an actual 1841 rare issue of William Lloyd Garrison’s THE LIBERATOR.

This media exhibit comprises more than 150 domestic and international press sources chronicling African-American life before and during the 1960s Civil Rights Movement, also included is the occasion to view and critique short-shorts from THE BLACK POWER MIXTAPE 1967-1975 recalling milestones and millstones of  “The Other Side of the Movement,” a documentary by the renowned Swedish cinematographer, Goran Hugo Alsson.

This American history immersion seminar is Saturday, February 21, from 8:30 a.m- noon at the Laramie County Community College, 1400 East College Drive in the Union Pacific Conference Room, Free admission, Donations appreciated.
