These calls for entries come from the Center for the Arts in Jackson:

The Center is seeking proposals from individual artists or small artist teams for The Center’s Public Spaces program and The Center Theater Gallery exhibition space for 2016. The Public Spaces program features public art installations in The Center’s Courtyard, The Center’s Sculpture Pad and The Center Park. The Center Theater Gallery is an approximately 35-foot long transitional hallway from the theater to the education pavilion at The Center with exhibition space on both walls of the gallery. These are high visibility, high traffic exhibition spaces, with more than 100,000 audience members attending events in and around The Center campus every year.

The Center’s exhibition spaces have featured an array of regional artists over the past two years. Center staff member, Carrie Richer, who is overseeing art in public spaces at The Center, will be expanding the exhibition opportunities to showcase the work of more local and regional artists in the year ahead.

For both calls for submissions, The Center is looking for interesting work that uses the unique space in refreshing ways and offers innovative interpretations of what it means to be an artist in the intermountain west. The deadline for submissions for The Center Theater Gallery is November 15, 2015, while entries for The Center’s Public Spaces program will be accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year.

THE CENTER THEATER GALLERY

The Center Theater Gallery has five open slots for the coming year for exhibitions ranging from 4 to 6 weeks from January 1-December 31, 2016. This is a juried call. Cutting edge contemporary artists as well as artists working in traditional media, but with a fresh vision, will be considered. Excellence, contemporary vision, technical expertise and suitability for the space are the criteria by which the jurors will make their selections. Both emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply. The artist may offer work for sale although a 30% commission and taxes will be withheld by Center for the Arts. The Center will provide online marketing, limited print marketing, opening reception for the artist, and a more intimate art talk with the public that touches upon the artist’s process. The work must arrive at The Center ready for installation, and the artist is responsible for transporting their work to and from The Center.

There are several optimal locations on The Center campus that lend themselves toward hosting installations and sculpture. This is a high visibility, high traffic opportunity, with more than 100,000 audience members attending events in and around The Center campus every year. The Center is looking for interesting work that uses the unique space in refreshing ways and offers innovative interpretations of what it means to be an artist in the intermountain west.

For 2016, The Center is seeking public art installations for The Center’s Courtyard, The Center’s Sculpture Pad and The Center Park. After evaluating submissions, the jury may decide there is an alternative space within The Center for the proposed work and will recommend locations on an individual basis.

Cutting edge public art and sculpture will be considered. Excellence, contemporary vision, technical expertise and suitability for the space are the criteria by which the jurors will make their selections. Both emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply. The artist may offer work for sale although a 30% commission and taxes will be withheld by Center for the Arts. The work must arrive at The Center ready for installation, and the artist is responsible for transporting their work to and from The Center. Stipends to cover major installation costs are available.
