Wyoming Arts Council

Calls for entry issued for Art in Public Building project in Torrington

The Wyoming Arts Council has announced two calls for entry, one for an outdoor sculptural piece and the other for indoor artwork, for a new building on the campus of Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington.

The deadline for both calls is midnight, Oct. 30, 2015. They are open to artists from Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Utah, and Idaho.

EWC is building a Career & Technical Education Center that will house Welding & Joining Technology, Cosmetology, Health Technology, and Community Connections. The first new building on campus in many years will feature a southern-facing plaza entry area and distinctive lobby area.

The selection committee is particularly interested in a sculpture that responds to the landscape, history of the community, or purpose of the building, and are leaning strongly towards something of welded construction. They hope that the artist might be interested in working with or demonstrating for students in those programs. For the indoor work, the committee is particularly interested in work that might relate to the welding and cosmetology programs and that reflects deep colors, jewel tones, Indian paintbrush, and the surrounding landscape.

Visit www.callforentry.org for complete details, including eligibility requirements, timelines, and budget information. Artists’ submissions will be reviewed and final selections will be made by a committee appointed by the Wyoming Arts Council and Eastern Wyoming College. The committee for this project includes members of the Eastern Wyoming College faculty and staff, and members from the various departments using the building, community members, artists, the architect, and a Wyoming State Parks & Cultural Resources Commissioner.

Interested artists may view architectural renderings of the building’s exterior and interior, as well as floor plans, by going here.
