Casper College Choirs’ “Pictures in Sound” concert set for March 2

From a Casper College press release:

The Casper College Choirs will present “Pictures in Sound: The Art of Text-Painting” concert on Sunday, March 2, at 3 p.m.

“The concert will focus on the many different ways that composers use music to paint text,” said Zachary Vreeman, choral instructor and director. “Sometimes it is done by creating a mood with the musical environment at large, sometimes with the shaping of a specific melody to the rhythm of the text, and some with very specific musical motives to paint single words, like imitations of wind, rain, and even frogs. Each piece shows that feature differently, and has been the topic of study in our rehearsals so far this semester,” Vreeman noted.

The Casper College Men’s Choir will begin the concert with a variety of songs including “Plaisir d’ amour,” “Mouth Music,” and “Soon-ah Will Be Done.” The Casper College Women’s Choir will perform “I Am Not Yours, “the/sky/was,” “In the Spring Sea,” and “a Girl’s Garden.”

The Casper College Collegiate Chorale will conclude the concert with “Sure on This Shining Night,” “La Lluvia,” Si, Ch’io vorrei morire,” and “Chindia.”

“Pictures in Sound: the Art of Text-Painting” concert will take place in the Wheeler Concert Hall located in the Music Building on the Casper College campus and is free and open to all.
