Casper College features art and poetry by veterans at Nov. 11 event

From a Casper College press release:

Casper College will celebrate Veterans’ Day with artwork, readings, and presentations on Monday, Nov. 11, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on the second floor lobby of the Gateway Building.

“We will celebrate how veterans use art and poetry to help them cope with the events they have experienced during their service. Artwork from Casper College veterans will be on display and the Casper College war literature class will share poetry from veterans,” said Lisa Goss, veteran and scholarship coordinator at Casper College.

In addition to the poetry, Chuck Kelly will give a presentation on his artwork and Leon Chamberlain will discuss post-traumatic stress disorder. “We will also recognize our local memorial scholarships which include the Wyoming Fallen Heroes, Scott Miller Memorial, and Corp. Jason Corbett Memorial scholarships,” Goss said.

“Veterans Day celebrates the service of all United States military veterans. It coincides with holidays such as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and mark the end of World War I. Major hostilities of the war ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918,” Goss noted.

The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.
