From a University of Wyoming press release:

University of Wyoming students will present new research findings at a symposium on the lives and historical contributions of African Americans to Wyoming and the American West.

The “Challenging Invisibility: Stories of Black Life in the American West” symposium will take place Tuesday, April 29, from 12:15-1:15 p.m. in the Wyoming Union West Ballroom. It will feature documentary films, portraits, photography and museum exhibits created by students from the American studies class, The Black West, taught by Kerry Pimblott, visiting assistant professor in the UW African American and Diaspora Studies Program. She says the students have spent the spring semester conducting original research on the Black western experience.

“The students’ projects are designed to highlight the important and often overlooked contributions of African Americans to Wyoming and the West,” Pimblott says.

The event and class projects are sponsored by the UW African American and Diaspora Studies Program, the Department of History and the American Heritage Center.
