Chancelor Havlik’s portraits featured in Gallery 234 starting Feb. 5

From a University of Wyoming press release:

Oil painted portraits by recent University of Wyoming artist Chancelor Havlik will be on display through Feb. 5 in Gallery 234, located in the lower level of the University of Wyoming Union in Laramie.

Havlik’s exhibition, “Real & Ideal,” consists of eight oil portraits that contain a unique and applicable concept. A closing reception is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5. Refreshments will be provided.

This will be Havlik’s last exhibition in Laramie. The series “Real & Ideal” was made by using a projector to project the Facebook profile picture of each of the subjects over the actual human subject. The final image combines a dual layered portrait.

Havlik describes the selection of a Facebook profile picture as being “selective about which information or images we would like to project, often choosing to present only the best versions of ourselves.”

“Projecting this carefully chosen image upon a candid, unedited portrait can reveal an individual’s insecurities, hopes, values and theory of communication,” he adds.

Havlik received a bachelor’s of fine arts degree, with a concurrent major in French.
