Cheyenne celebrates arts inspired by the African Diaspora at April 18 event

Save the date — April 18 — for the fourth annual International Africa MAAFA (the scattering of the people) in Cheyenne.

This event is being brought to the Laramie County Community by SANKOFA African Heritage Awareness, Inc., Cheyenne’s first and only original African Arts Festival commemorating one of the never-to-be forgotten heritages of America, the devoted stamina of African peoples.

For the first time performing in Cheyenne — AMANDA SARAH, Afro-Colombian guitarist and balladeer, and NII OKAI ARYEETEY, Ghana, West Africa’s Spider Hands Percussionist. Joining them will be members of the Wyoming African Student Association at UW and Africans United at CSU who will present traditional African dances, songs, dramatic monologues and skits from the continent and the Diaspora.

This performing arts attraction is April 18 at the Laramie County Community College, Conference and Institutes meeting room, 1400 East College Drive, from 9:05 a.m.-12:35 p.m., Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Lunch at 10:30 a.m.
