The  Laramie Mural Project Announces Next Project:  Community Paint-by-Number Mural

The Laramie Mural Project continues to beautify downtown with the creation of large-scale murals by local artists that celebrate Laramie?s quality of life and community connectivity. This summer, senior mural artist Meghan Meier will be creating an intricate, “paint-by-number” line drawing at the First Street Plaza at First and Grand Avenue. The community is invited to help paint June 20-28 for one hour shifts between 9 and 2 p.m. or 5 and 7 p.m. Paint opportunities are on a first come, first served basis. Individuals, families and groups are encouraged to sign up at the First Street Plaza starting June 20.The piece, entitled, “Many Hands Make Work Play” is representative of community collaboration. Those interested in contributing to the project can help purchase supplies at the local Sherwin-Williams, 2900 Grand Avenue. A gift registry has been established with items ranging from painters tape, brushes, trays, drop clothes and paint. Items range from $3 to $60.  Donated items can be held at the store and will be picked up by the mural artists.

Sherwin-Williams will also be donating up to 10 gallons of paint to the project.

Donors and participants are encouraged to document their interaction with the piece by using the hashtag #manyhands.

The Laramie Mural Project is a partnership between the University of Wyoming Art Museum and the Laramie Main Street Alliance. Since 2011, it has encouraged local artists to reflect Laramie?s cultural assets through large-scale murals and public art initiatives.
