Deadline looming for Governor's Capitol Art Exhibition

The next Governor’s Capitol Art Exhibition and Sale will take place in February 2015, with applications due Sept. 7, 2014.

The planning committee decided in 2013 to reschedule the Governor’s Art Exhibition & Sale during the 2015 legislative session to expand the show’s visibility, increase sponsorship and the potential for artwork sales.

Applications are currently available on CaFE. There is no application fee, but applicants must be members of the Wyoming Arts Council’s free Artist Image Registry (AIR). You need only have sent in your registration by the deadline. The deadline is September 7.

The Governor’s Capitol Art Exhibition and Sale celebrates the work of the state’s visual artists. The juried group show is held annually in Cheyenne. Purchase Award winning works from the show join the Governor’s Capitol Art Collection, a dedicated collection of original art displayed in the public areas of state government offices. All other artwork included in the exhibition is available for sale.

The Governor’s Capitol Art Exhibition and Sale began when Governor Jim Geringer realized that there were not enough pieces of Wyoming artwork to display in the Governor’s office. The other elected officials’ offices also wanted artworks to exhibit. Several pieces are added to this collection each year.
