Description:

Andrew Wheelock is the Percussion Professor at the University of Wyoming. Prior to UW, he was an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Lincoln College and Greenville University. Andrew received his Doctorate and Masters in jazz studies from the University of Illinois. He also holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Central Michigan University (2013). Wheelock's primary teachers have been Joel Spencer, Ricardo Flores, Jim Pugh, Tito Carrillo, Chip Stephens, Dr. Andrew Spencer, and Rob Smith.

As an active jazz drummer and percussionist, Andrew Wheelock has had the great pleasure of performing with Bobby Shew, Terell Stafford, Chuchito Valdés, Tim Ries, Chip McNeil, Matt Olson, Ben Markley, Chip Stephens, Tito Carrillo, Jim Pugh, Larry Gray, Bill Sears, and Rob Smith. Wheelock is currently leading his own Afro-Cuban ensemble, Clave Camaradas, as well as performing with the Dimitrije Vasiljević quintet, Andre Goncalves septet, and Gonzalo Teppa quintet.

Andrew has been teaching drums, percussion, jazz, music appreciation, music history, and music theory for the past 12 years as a private instructor, drum line coach, high school percussion instructor, jazz band director, teaching assistant, and professor.
