Wyoming Arts Council

Description:

I am a former newspaper photojournalist who has transitioned from shooting photographs for others to making personal work of the landscape. My work is almost exclusively in black and white, with subjects and compositions often being quiet, balanced, and reticent. I am drawn primarily to subjects with an interplay of nature and man, areas in which I find great meaning and significance.

In addition to making new work, I lead periodic photography workshops, mentor numerous private students, and speak to photography groups at events around the country.

In my previous life as a photojournalist, I was part of a small staff which was named as a finalist for the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography. More recently, my work has been published in such respected international publications as Lenswork, Fotoritim (Turkey), Progresso Fotografico (Italy), Dodho magazine (Middle East), F/11 magazine (New Zealand), and Black and White Photography (UK) among others.

I have exhibited a good deal, including large solo exhibitions at the North Dakota Museum of Art and The Nicolaysen Art Museum. I am a 2012 recipient of the Wyoming Arts Council Visual Arts Fellowship and have completed four, month-long artist residencies.
