Our 20:20 event didn’t go as planned last night. Rachel Miller at the UW Art Museum loaded the artists’ images into a Powerpoint presentation and it looked very cool. But the laptop at the event did not cooperate. I’ve been in front of large crowds with software or hardware that was not behaving. Susan Moldenhauer and Rachel did their best to get the program working, and even called on the talents of the UW Conference Center tech guy. But no go.
So the WAC’s Camellia El-Antably sprung into action and uploaded disks of some of the participating artists. They had the foresight to bring along a copy of their work on disk. Greg Gaylor from Rock Springs brought along slides of his work and somehow found a projector to exhibit them. Not sure if he always travels with an antique Kodak machine but we have to give him extra credit for “being prepared.”
We were able to show off the work of a handful of artists: Karen Cotton, Doc Thissen, Lawrence Argent, Susan Davis and Drew Rush. We saw Joe Arnold’s work but it was late and he’d already departed. Mountain climbing artists need their rest. We’ll try to get the rest of the artists up on the big screen before Saturday night.
The original idea of 20:20 is to get 20 Wyoming artists to project 20 images for 20 seconds each, describing the work as it flashes before us. This would give us a “snapshot” of art being created around Wyoming. Rachel programmed her Powerpoint to do just this, but you just never know. We’ll keep at it until we get it right.
The Wyoming Arts Council believes that experiencing the arts should be accessible for all, including people with mental and/or physical disabilities, older adults, military/veterans, people living in institutions and those who lack access to the arts due to geographic isolation, cultural difference and economic hardship.
