FAST Filmmaking Festival blends historic preservation with the art of film

Filmmaking idea from Alan O’Hashi: Author Ernest Hemingway and reporter Martha Gellhorn were married somewhere in the Cheyenne Union Pacific Depot. Where, and what happened later to this couple?

You can register for Wyoming Community Media’s FAST Filmmaking Festival by Oct. 3. The theme for this year’s competition is historic preservation. Thanks to WCM’s Alan O’Hashi for including the WAC’s Artscapes Magazine into the props required for each film. Here’s some background on FFMF:

The basis for the challenge this year melds particular historic places(s) over 50 years old, and your story that describes why the place matters historically and in the present. You can make a fictional narrative based on a factual place, such as the example of “On the Road” which is a fictional account by Jack Kerouac about a night spent in Cheyenne during Frontier Days, but based on factual places, like the bus station, which no longer exists. We’re also looking for straight documentaries. Establish one of these places and then build your story. We had some good ideas discussed yesterday, including the Irwin Barn. If you have another historic place, give it a try.
