Wyoming dinosaur discoveries will be the focus of November’s lecture at the Wyoming State Museum on January 14, at 7 p.m.

Wyoming is home to some of the world’s most famous dinosaur fossils. Since the first discovery in 1872, tens of thousands of dinosaur bones have been excavated, placed on railcars or loaded into trucks, and shipped out of state, many even to other continents. It was not until 1961 that a dinosaur from Wyoming was mounted and placed on display within the state.

Jessica Lippincott, director of the Big Horn Basin Foundation, will share information about the last 150 years of dinosaur discoveries in Wyoming, and where those dinosaurs are now.

Lippincott will also promote the Foundation’s recently published book “Wyoming’s Dinosaur Discoveries.” The book will be available for purchase during a special book signing before the lecture, from 4 to 5 p.m., as well as after the lecture. This lecture and book signing are sponsored by the Wyoming State Museum Volunteers, Inc.

The Wyoming State Museum’s Thursday Night Lecture Series is held the second Thursday of each month, September – May, at 7 p.m. The Lecture Series is free and open to the public. The Wyoming State Museum is located in the Barrett Building, 2301 Central Avenue in Cheyenne.
