A solo exhibition by UW Eminent Artist in Residence Judy Pfaff will open Saturday, March 30, at the University of Wyoming Art Museum in Laramie. “Judy Pfaff: Come What May” features large mixed media sculpture and two-dimensional works.

Considered a pioneer of installation art in the 1970s, Pfaff is known for her site-specific installations that are exuberant, sprawling environments that combine natural motifs, architecture and color, says Rachel Miller, UW Art Museum assistant curator. “The exhibition presents two-dimensional collages and three-dimensional assemblages that incorporate such materials as plastics, cardboard, and often times lighting elements, into organic works.”

As the UW Eminent Artist in Residence, Pfaff is a faculty member in the UW Department of Art. Her exhibition at the UW Art Museum will be on view through Saturday, May 4. She will present an informal question-and-answer session Monday, April 15, at 7 p.m. in Room 111 of the UW Visual Arts Building. Pfaff will lead a public gallery walk-through Tuesday, April 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the UW Art Museum. Both events are free and open to the public.

Pfaff received a bachelor of fine arts degree from Washington University, Saint Louis (1971), and a master of fine arts degree from Yale University (1973). She has received numerous grants and fellowships, including the MacArthur Fellowship (2004), Guggenheim Fellowship (1983) and National Endowment for the Arts grants (1979, 1986). She has exhibited in solo exhibitions and group shows in major galleries and museums in the United States and abroad. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art and Detroit Institute of Arts. She is a professor and department chair at Bard College, New York.
