Karen Cotton conducts book-signing, “Photography for Kids” workshop, in Green River

This press release comes from the Sweetwater County Library System:

Kids in first through fourth grades who are interested in photography have an upcoming opportunity to learn the basics of the art.

Former Green River resident Karen Cotton will be teaching a Photography for Kids class on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Sweetwater County Library, 300 N. 1st East, Green River. The class begins at 4 p.m.

Designed for kids in first through fourth grades, Cotton’s class will be hands-on. The kids are asked to bring a digital or disposable camera.

During the class, Cotton has a full schedule of learning for the kids. “They’ll learn how to use a camera, how to frame a picture, what a flash is for, how to shoot inside pictures, outside pictures, close up, far away and action pictures,” Cotton said. “Then I’ll let them loose and let them take pictures.”

Cotton said it is best if parents come with the kids to help them through the process.

Following the class, Cotton will have a book signing for her book “Vedauwoo: Hidden Faces in Mysterious Places.” The book is nonfiction and focuses on how you can sees faces and things in the rock formations at Vedauwoo. “It was inspired by Mansface (in Green River),” Cotton said.

Cotton will have copies of the book for sale. They are $10 each.

Cotton grew up in Green River and is a 1994 graduate of Green River High School. She attended Western Wyoming Community College and worked at the student newspaper there. She has a degree in Communications-Mass Media from the University of Wyoming.

Cotton is a former features and entertainment reporter for the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle in Cheyenne. While working for the newspaper, she interviewed celebrities such as Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and the Jonas Brothers. She also took pictures for the newspaper.
