Madelaine “Maddy” German of Jackson reached out to the Arts Council last summer for help to jump-start her music career. Maddy and the Groove Spots just launched their debut EP with help from a WAC Individual Artist Professional Development grant and a successful Kickstarter campaign. Catch the group live this Friday, Feb. 21, 9 p.m., at the Mangy Moose in Teton Village.
Maddy and the Groove Spots describe themselves this way:  A funk-groove original music project based out of Jackson, Wyoming. This female-fronted band is based around classically trained lead singer and keyboardist Madelaine German’s (Maddy) lyrically-driven, soul-pop singer-songwriter material. Maddy is backed by the Groove Spots: on drums, charismatic and ever-funky John Wayne Harris, Jr., on bass, virtuostic and jazz-rooted Leif Routman, and on guitar, the talented and indie-inclined Dusty Nichols. Between the lot, this band’s musicians have performed on stages ranging from Carnegie Hall to opening slots for OAR, and the different background and training behind each musician in this group gives Maddy and the Groove Spots a uniquely funky, tight and decidedly-danceable sound.
