From the Teton County Public Library:

On Thursday, November 13th from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. the Teton County Library hosts their popular film program, Movie Night at the Library in the Ordway Auditorium with a screening of the film “Skipped Parts” followed by a Q & A with screenwriter Tim Sandlin.

“Movie Night at the Library” evenings are on the second or third Thursday of the month throughout the year. The program is facilitated by filmmaker and American Film Institute alumna, Spark Malachowski. The event is open to everyone and is free.

On Thursday beloved local author, Tim Sandlin joins “Movie Night at the Library” for a discussion of the art of screenwriting and his experiences as a screenwriter in Hollywood. (Tim, would you like to write a quote here?)

Born in Oklahoma, Sandlin spent his childhood summers in the Jackson area. He worked in 40 entry-level jobs including driving an ice cream truck, skinning elk, cooking in a Chinese restaurant, caretaker, gardener, belt buckle buffer, and multiple dishwashing jobs.

Sandlin is the author of eleven novels and has written eleven screenplays for hire, three of which have been produced. His movie credits include the Showtime original “Floating Away,” based on “Sorrow Floats,” and “Skipped Parts,” a TriMark film. The Serendipity Films picture, “Right Kind of Wrong,” is based on his novel, “Sex and Sunsets.”

For the Jackson Hole News, Sandlin wrote “The Pyms: Unauthorized Tales of Jackson Hole.” He is a contributor to the New York Times Book Review and is the Director of the Jackson Hole Writers Conference.

Written by Tim Sandlin and directed by Tamra Davis “Skipped Parts” takes place in 1963, when Lydia’s father is running for governor and does not want his wild daughter and her teenage son, Sam, to spoil his chances. They are banished to a small town in Wyoming. These two North Carolina transplants have a difficult time fitting into the fabric of western life. Lydia does not acknowledge her responsibilities as a mother. Sam, an aspiring novelist, discovers that he is one of only two students in GroVont High School who can read. The other is Maurey. Sam is obsessed with finding out about the one topic his favorite authors are skipping over — sex! With help from his fantasy girl and Maurey, Sam finds out about those skipped parts.

“I am a big fan of Tim Sandlin’s work and am delighted that he is joining us this evening,” says facilitator Malachowski. “He wrote the screenplay based on his novel of the same name and I am particularly interested to learn about his page to screen process.”
