New Mexico Centennial Poet Laureate Levi Romero will give a presentation of his work at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m, in Room 1302.  He will also offer an author’s workshop that will focus on the art of storytelling.   That workshop is scheduled from 1 – 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22 in Room 1302. Both events are free and open to the public.

Romero, an Albuquerque native, is the author of the collections A Poetry of Remembrance: New and Rejected Works and In the Gathering of Silence, and co-author of the new book Sagrado: A Photopoetics Across the Chicano Homeland. In 2012, he was named as the Centennial Poet Laureate of New Mexico.  He is an Assistant Professor of Chicana and Chicano Studies and Community Regional Planning at the University of New Mexico.

The event is the first in the Spring Visiting Writers series at WWCC that will also include visits by former Wyomingite Julene Bair on February 12, poet Rhonda Welsh of Detroit on February 26, and the duo Teresa Jordan and Hal Cannon on March 26. The series is made possible through the support of the Arlene and Louise Wesswick Foundation for the Humanities.
