Opening reception June 6 for Diana Baumbach's "Postpartum Documentation" exhibit

From the Center for the Arts in Jackson:

Diana Baumbach: Postpartum Documentation
June 6 – July 15, 2014
Center for the Arts Theater Gallery

Exhibit Opening: June 6, 5:30-7 p.m.

Diana Baumbach’s Postpartum Documentation began following the birth of her son Shepard in December 2012. This series allows Baumbach to balance motherhood and art making by integrating meditative practices into her daily life. She uses French knots, pin pricks, and punched holes to create concentric circles on paper. With each ring she re-centers herself both visually and metaphorically. Formally, these pieces reference things as disparate as tree rings and doilies, both of which seem conceptually relevant to the work.

About the artist: Originally from Oak Park, IL, Diana Baumbach earned her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis (2003) and her MFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (2007). In addition to numerous juried and invitational group shows, she has had solo exhibitions at Dynamo Expo (Enschede, Netherlands), The Hudson Museum (Rotterdam, Netherlands), Box13 (Houston, TX), Washington State University (Pullman, WA), Whittier College (Whittier, CA), and Arkansas State University (Jonesboro, AR). Baumbach was invited to create a temporary outdoor sculpture for the Sun Valley Center for the Arts (Ketchum, ID) in 2012 and the following year she completed a permanent public commission in Pinedale. She received Honorable Mention for the Wyoming Arts Council’s Visual Art Fellowship twice (2011, 2013). Baumbach is an assistant professor at the University of Wyoming in Laramie where she has lived for the past seven years.
