Piatigorsky Foundation Announces Wyoming Fall Tour


For the 16th consecutive year, the Muriel & Seymour Thickman Family Charitable Trust in Sheridan is funding The Piatigorsky Foundation’s tour of Wyoming. The fall 2019 tour will include public concerts and school outreach programs. The community concerts are free and open to the public. The Wyoming Arts Council serves as facilitator with each of the communities in the state. This tour features clarinetist Katsuya Yuasa and pianist Mary Au.

The schedule for the fall 2019 Wyoming Piatigorsky Tour is as follows:

  • Sunday, Sept. 22, Fort Laramie Community Center, Fort Laramie, 12:30 p.m.
  • Monday, Sept. 23, Saratoga High School (school show only), Saratoga, 8:10 a.m.; The Historic Occidental Hotel and Saloon, Buffalo, 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 24, The Brinton Museum, Big Horn, 6:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 25, Campbell County High School (school show only), Gillette, 11:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, Sept. 26, Moorcroft High School (school show only), Moorcroft, 9:00 a.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 27, Whiting High School (school show only), Laramie, 2:00 p.m.

A charismatic and versatile clarinetist, Katsuya Yuasa has performed widely in the United States as a soloist and chamber musician. Presently, he is the Concert Artist of Mu Phi Epsilon (MPE), Professor of Clarinet at Florida A&M University, and a graduate teaching assistant at Florida State University, where he is pursuing a doctoral degree under the guidance of Jonathan Holden and Deborah Bish. He studied under Janet Averett for his Bachelor’s at San Jose State University and Michael Norsworthy for Master’s and Artist Diploma at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. He is a founding member of Duo Esplanade (flute, clarinet) and Cosmos New Music (flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano). He explores a wide repertoire of classical, jazz, ethnic, and contemporary music.

Pianist Mary Au is a much sought after collaborative pianist and chamber musician with worldwide experience. Hailed for her “sensitive and seamless transition between chamber music collaboration and piano accompaniment” (Daniel Cariaga), Ms. Au has collaborated with renowned artists from around the globe, including the legendary opera superstar Christine Brewer and Tchaikovsky Competition Gold Medalist Nathaniel Rosen. Known for her impassioned performances, versatility and active involvement on the contemporary music scene, she has premiered works by noted contemporary composers Lera Auerbach, Chen Yi, Huang Ruo, David Lefkowitz, Deon Price, Adrienne Albert, Carol Worthey and Sharon Willis, among others. “A virtuoso artist of the highest order, completely in command of the instrument, which she plays with intensity, concentration and great expressive sensitivity.
