Project Healing Waters sponsors third annual fly tying contest

We are pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Fly Tying Contest! The Fly Tying Contest is way for PHWFF program participants to showcase the skills, talents, and creativity garnered from program classes, meetings, and independent study in a casual, fun contest. Only individuals who meet the definition of a PHWFF participant will be eligible to enter the contest.

The flies will be judged by a fly-tying panel comprised of PHWFF program volunteers, celebrity tiers, and professional tiers.  The winners will attend the International Fly Tying Symposium on November 21-22, 2015 at the Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset, NJ, with the winners having the opportunity to showcase their fly tying skills at the PHWFF booth during the show.  They will also have the opportunity to attend the many programs and fly tying demonstrations that take place during the show.  Deadline for entries is September 1st, 2015.  There will be two judging categories, with three winners in each. That means there will be a total of 6 winners (1st – 3rd in both categories)!

For more information on the 2nd Annual Fly Tying Contest, PHWFF volunteers and participants should contact their local Program Lead or Regional Coordinator

Here’s what 2014 Winner Robert Fletcher said about his time at the International Fly Tying Symposium:

“It was a great honor to attend the symposium. While there, I was able to meet some of the best fly tyers in the world. These tyers were from all over the world. It was a great honor to be able to talk to these tyers face to face and learn a great deal about fly tying from them. Going to this may be a once in a life time thing for me. If it was not for Project Healing Waters, I would never thought of being there. Some people only dream about going this symposium. With this in mind, thanks to Project Healing Waters, many other Veterans can have the same or better opportunities than what I have experienced.”

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings.
