Wyoming Arts Council

The works of three artists, including Florence McEwin and Liliane Francuz, will be on display at the Western Wyoming Community College Art Show “Pushing the Print” which opens October 7 and runs through November 17. The show will feature a diverse mix of hand-pulled printmaking techniques. The show is free and open to the public at WWCC in Rock Springs throughout the week, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Dr. Florence Alfano McEwin, WWCC Professor of Art is one of the featured artists in this much anticipated show. Dr. McEwin received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts, Masters of Arts from the University of Wyoming and went on to earn a Doctorate in Aesthetics at the University of North Texas, College of the Visual Arts.  Dr. McEwin is Professor of Art and Gallery Director at Western.

Dr. McEwin’s work holds a common theme in representing the tale of Red Riding Hood. McEwin states, “In my revisionist works of Red Riding Hood, the real, the  interpreted  and the imagined find their way as metaphors, re-examining this child’s tale. Red Riding Hood, since coming to life in the interpretation of Charles Perrault in 17^th century France is a universal image within a morality tale.  The wolf is an archetypal element laden with associations and imbued with analogous interpretations from all societies of both high and low cultural histories – children stories to sacrificial votive of ancient times.  In these works, relationship tensions are considered with a playful twist of angst and paradox.
