Peter Gibbons’ “Photographing Art of the Hunt” can be viewed Jan. 13-Feb. 6  in Gallery 234 in the lower level of the University of Wyoming Union in Laramie. A reception will take place Thursday, Jan. 16, from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.

The photographs were taken in Wyoming last summer as a joint effort between the UW American Studies Program and the Wyoming Arts Council. Gibbons says he was tasked with “gathering images of Wyoming artisans of fishing, hunting, outfitting and other traditions that are synonymous with Western and Wyoming outdoor lifestyles.”

His vision for the project, Gibbons says, was to “weave our selected artists with their artistic work with their landscapes. The result is a story that integrates people with art with environment.”

The photographs will continue to be shown later this year at the Wyoming State Museum in an exhibition called “Art of the Hunt.”

Individuals who need assistance to attend should phone the Campus Activities Center at  (307) 766-6340. For more information, visit www.uwyo.edu/cac  or “like” the Wyoming Union on Facebook.
