News from the Grand Teton Association:

The Grand Teton Association offers a free writing workshop in Grand Teton National Park, Saturday, August 8.  The guest writer is the poet Rick Kempa of Rock Springs.  He will lead the workshop for writers of any genre and any level of interest.

For the workshop,  meet at the flagpole in front of the Craig Thomas Discovery Center at 9 a.m.  From there we will go to a good place to write and talk together.  Bring paper and pen, appropriate outdoor clothing for variable weather conditions and, if you like, water and something to sit on.  The workshop ends at noon.  Hope to see you there.

Author’s workshop description and bio:

Rick Kempa from Rock Springs took his first hike in Grand Teton National Park as a teenager in 1972, and has been returning to the Teton back-country ever since. A life-long lover of our national parks, Rick has twice served as Artist-in-Residence at Grand Canyon National Park. He is the author of two books of poetry, Keeping the Quiet (Bellowing Ark Press, 2008) and Ten Thousand Voices (Littoral Press, 2013), and the editor of ON FOOT: Grand Canyon Backpacking Stories, a collection of hiking tales by 27 writers which was published by Vishnu Temple Press in 2014. “Plein Air Poetry Workshop”   We will open our senses to the wonders of Grand Teton National Park—both the intricate foreground and the awesome background—and translate what we experience into words. Bring whatever tools for seeing you may have: a pocket notebook, binoculars, perhaps even a magnifying glass…
