Shannon Troxler finds inspiration in “Missing Pages” of Emma and Alice

How do we find out what’s going on in Teton County and vicinity?

We read Tammy Christel’s Jackson Hole Art Blog. We also refer to our own grants, but reading Christel’s blog is so much more exciting.

Neat post today on the JHAB about an event at the Teton County Public Library. Using well-known books as inspiration, Shannon Troxler has painted a number of new encaustic works featuring characters and scenes from those stories. Troxler’s work will be on display Nov. 7-Dec. 27 at the library.  The artist will participate in a free opening reception for her show, “Missing Pages,” on Thursday, Nov. 14, from  5-7 p.m.  An artist’s talk takes place at 6 p.m.

“The title of the show came about because my family and friends would complain that books I lent them had missing pages,” says Troxler. “Each of my paintings will have a clue to a literary subject’s identity, such as a quote—the pages are part of the art—and I’ll have a table full of books I’ve used. The idea is to figure out which painting matches which book; some are very easy and some more difficult.”
