Trashcan (2)

From the Plaza Diane Community Center for the Arts in Powell:

In homage to The Ashcan School of the early 20th century, Plaza Diane presents a three-day plein air event that takes place in the heart of the downtown shopping district of Powell.  Here artists are invited to capture the “urban” scenes of everyday life rather than the magnificent natural vistas one might paint in nearby Yellowstone National Park.

Check in for the event begins at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, at Plaza Diane Community Center for the Arts.  An orientation to the area and a map will be provided to assist artrists in choosing a location to paint.  At 5:00 p.m., on Thursday, a welcome dinner will be held at the WyOld West Brewing Company, just two doors up from Plaza Diane.

Artists may paint as they choose but at least one piece must be finished by 5:00 pm on Saturday for display at the evening exhibition.

A special award will be given to one participant artist by Plein Air Magazine, based on their criteria (yet to be determined).  No other awards are given as we seek to develop a non-competive environment in which amatuer artists will feel welcome and professionals will be inspired and challenged by our unique settings.

Artists will need to provide their own shade structure and materials (though we do have a downtown art supply store).  Cold bottled water and restrooms will be available throughout the event at Plaza Diane but artists may wish to have a small cooler handy in case the location you choose is not near food and drink facilities.
