Stage III holds Middle Platte Renaissance Faire Aug. 15-17 in Casper

The Middle Platte Renaissance Faire, put on by  Stage III Community Theatre, will return to the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds August 15, 16 & 17.  This is Stage III Community Theatre’s fourth renaissance faire.

Each year the theater volunteers “plan and man” the faire trying new ideas, new entertainment, new vendors plus the traditional favorites.  This year the event will be held entirely outdoors.  Community involvement is strongly encouraged. Vendors and volunteers are required to dress in period dress and vendor booths are expected to have a renaissance flavor as well.  Anyone needing help can make an appointment with the faire committee members for help with either booths and costumes, or both.

The first night is “Masquerade Night” for adults only and will christen the new MPRF secret brew made specifically for the event by Wyoming Brewing.  There will be a joust, music, costume contests and more.  Bring the whole family Saturday and Sunday for a days full of fun. Back by request are the Ceremonial Knighting by the King and Tea with the Queen for the little ones and new activities for the “kids at heart” .

This year the Order of Epona from Colorado will be jousting (and claim to bring their own dragon with them).  The Renaissance Scots Living History Association of Colorado will be returning with various demonstrations as will the local  Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA).  There were a few challenges thrown down last year and sword fighting ensued.  It wouldn’t be at all surprising if the challenges fly again this summer!

A lot of new talent is expected, including a magician, a fire eater, belly dancers, musicians, mermaid and the ever popular faeries.  The guests of the faire are invited to take photos at various locations around the grounds which will be set-up for “Photos by You”.  Costumes will be available for the photos if wanted as well as a camera volunteer, so everyone in the picture!  There will be a chess tournament and games for young and old.

When rest and refreshment are needed,  food vendors and the Longbowman’s Pub will be open.  Want to take home something special?  You are sure to find it at one of the local and regional retail vendors booths.

The entire event is put on by members of Stage III Community Theatre.  Planning begins in October and continues until the last booth is set up.  It is a great opportunity to learn a bit of history while having a great day.
