Here’s some details on the event from an article by Colleen Smith in the Denver Post:

The 16th annual Western art exhibit is in a gallery on the third floor of the Hall of Education and runs concurrent with the dates and hours of the stock show. This year, in the interest of reining in confusion about contemporary Western art, the Denver art Museum joins the collaboration, and the Western American art celebration gains a new umbrella title: “WinterWest: Denver’s Premier Western Art Celebration.”

WinterWest offers a scholarly symposium on Western art Saturday at the Denver Art Museum; self-guided studio and gallery tours Sunday from 1-4 p.m.; Western art experts lecturing at the stock show on Monday; and Tuesday’s opening night art sale that benefits the National Western Scholarship Trust.

The 50 artists in the show include a handful whose works have been collected by the Denver Art Museum. Among them are Denver’s pre-eminent Western watercolorist, William Matthews; Don Coen, a Colorado native with a painting prominently installed in the museum’s new Hamilton Building; and landscape painter Gordon Brown, who was born and raised in Grand Junction. The exhibit also includes three works by Idaho sculptor George Carlson, whose retrospective is installed in the museum. Sophy Brown, who paints rodeo scenes and is a Lafayette resident, is also included.
