From a UW press release:

A new exhibition, “Stocked: Contemporary Art from the Grocery Aisles,” opens Saturday, March 15, at the University of Wyoming Art Museum in Laramie.

The exhibition presents the work of contemporary artists who use the grocery store and consumption of its products as their subjects. Using strategies culled from minimalism, performance, documentary photography and scientific taxonomy, the artists interrogate not only the grocery items consumers purchase, but also the physical and psychological environments in which they shop. Habits of consumer consumption are highlighted in the work.

Several free programs are scheduled in conjunction with the exhibition.

A response panel with faculty from the visual arts, management and marketing, history and American studies departments is scheduled Monday, March 24, 7 p.m., at the UW Art Museum.

A food drive to support Interfaith-Good Samaritan will include a raffle and is set for Monday, March 31, at 7 p.m., also at the UW Art Museum.

Curator Emily Stamey will present a public art talk Thursday, April 10, at 10 a.m. in Room 111 of the Visual Arts Building. She will lead a gallery walk-through of the exhibition Friday, April 11, at 10:30 a.m.

An opening reception is scheduled Friday, April 11, from 6-8 p.m.

Wichita State University’s Ulrich Museum of Art organized the exhibition, which is curated by Stamey. The exhibition is supported by the Lois Kay Walls Foundation Trust, Spirit Aerosystems and Delta Dental. Additional sponsors include Louise Beren, John and Nancy Brammer, Norma Greever, Richard D. Smith and Sondra M. Langel, and Keith and Georgia Stevens.

The UW exhibition is funded, in part, by UW Art Museum Gala funds and the Wyoming Arts Council through the Wyoming State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
