From a UW press release:

The University of Wyoming Art Museum’s 2015 Summer Teaching Institute, “The NeWest: Contemporary Conversations of Place,” will examine the intersection of diverse voices and artistic vision that inform contemporary dialogues of place. The institute is set for July 27-31.

Art teachers, classroom teachers and community educators are invited to participate. Professional Teaching Standards Board credit or UW continuing education credit is available. Teachers are encouraged to bring partner educators from their schools, districts or communities.

Cost of the workshop is $150 per person with a $50 non-refundable pre-registration fee. Partners may register as follows: $150 for first, $125 for second partner and $100 for any additional partners. There is a $50 non-refundable pre-registration fee for each partner, and all partners must register together. Registration forms are available at the Art Museum website at www.uwyo.edu/artmuseum.

UW Department of Art Associate Professor Ashley Hope Carlisle and Instructor David Jones will guide participants in an examination of place as a metaphor for identity. June Glasson, Wyoming Arts Council Visual Arts Fellowship recipient, will share her work featured in the exhibition, “South Pass: Wyoming Arts Council Biennial 2015,” on view at the Art Museum.

Additionally, Ann Simpson Artmobile Educator Erica Ramsey will share the new Artmobile exhibition, and participants will be able to schedule Artmobile visits for the 2015-16 school year. UW Art Museum Master Teacher Heather Bender will use the museum’s inquiry process to encourage deep reflection and engage instructor and participant alike in creating new conversations about place.

All classes will be held in the UW Visual Arts Building and at the UW Art Museum directed by Katie Christensen, curator of education and statewide engagement.

Studio time is included every afternoon to explore new materials and ideas inspired by original artwork and readings. Studio experience is not required to participate in this workshop.

For more information, call Bender at (307) 766-3515, email hbender1@uwyo.edu, or follow the museum on Facebook.

“Placing Art at the Center of Learning” is a guiding principle of the UW Art Museum’s programs. Located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie, the museum is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free.
