University of Wyoming music professor Nicole Riner sends this info about a concert fund-raiser in Cheyenne:
The University of Wyoming Flute Quartet will perform a free concert at St. Mark’s Cathedral, 1908 Central Avenue in Cheyenne, on Sunday, April 21, at 3 p.m.  A free-will donation basket will be available with all proceeds helping to fund the Summit Flute Institute’s annual Wyoming Flute Day. UW flute professor Nicole Riner will also be selling her solo CDs and a newly released CD of UW music faculty performing chamber music for $10 each, with those proceeds also going to the Summit Flute Institute.
Music to be performed spans four centuries and represents a global musical community, representing composers from Europe,  North America, and South America.  Some pieces also quote Asian and jazz influences within the compositions. There will be not only the standard flute quartet instrumentation, but also a flute trio and individual solos performed by each of the four quartet members.  Baroque music by G. P. Telemann will be performed; the classic solo, Syrinx, about the mythical Greek figure, by Claude Debussy, a Latin tango, and an arrangement of Vivaldi’s Spring from the Four Seasons will round out the program.
The members of the UW Flute Quartet are all graduate or advanced undergraduate performance majors.  Rebecca Eggli is from Lander; graduate student Krystle Radtke is a native of Brainerd, MN; and graduate students Jeong-Uk Kang and Kyung a Choi hail from South Korea.  The group has performed extensively around the state, including local performances on and off-campus in Laramie and as featured performers at the 2012 Wyoming Flute Day, where they also served as mentors to participating high school and junior high school students. They will be joined by their professor, Dr. Nicole Riner, who will play the solo part in Vivaldi’s Spring at the end of the concert.
The Summit Flute Institute organizes and runs the annual Wyoming Flute Day, a one-day flute festival held in rotating locations around the state to serve young flutists and their teachers.  Each Wyoming Flute Day includes special workshops on topics like yoga, breathing, scales, and tone; masterclasses for high school students; a recital of performances by area flute teachers and college students; and a group flute choir concert in which any student of any level may participate. SFI also publishes a bi-monthly e-newsletter, and subscriptions are free.  For more information visit https://sites.google.com/site/wyoflutes/summit-flute-institute or contact Dr. Nicole Riner at nicole.riner@gmail.com.
