On August 1, Laramie woodworking artist Meg Thompson won the 2015 Best in Show for Woodworking at the 46th Annual Kimball Arts Festival in historic Park City, Utah. More than 230-juried artists competed for the prestigious awards that brought in over 60,000 buyers.

Thompson is renowned throughout the state of Wyoming for both her woodworking skills and her advancement of the arts. She was able to compete in the Kimball Arts Festival thanks to a grant from the Wyoming Arts Council, with funding from the Wyoming State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Whether working as an artist or participating in committees and artist groups, Thompson has been influential in the arts in Wyoming. Additionally, she has exhibited in shows across the country, and has won numerous prestigious awards.

In her woodworking, Thompson blends reclaimed materials with a Shaker simplicity and Western aesthetic to create custom furniture and case goods. Whether working with wood, copper, barbed wire, or other materials, Thompson combines traditional joinery techniques and historic forms with contemporary applications to create heirloom pieces for future generations.
