Wyoming Arts Council holds town meeting in Gillette July 16

The Wyoming Arts Council is holding a Town Meeting on Thursday, July 16, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the AVA Community Arts Center; 509 W. 2nd St., Gillette.

The meeting is open to the public. The WAC is holding these gatherings this summer in ten other communities around the state.

WAC Executive Director Michael Lange urges people to attend and “bring your comments, suggestions and dreams of the future for the arts in Wyoming.”

The state agency conducts these meetings every five years in order to develop a long-range plan for the arts in Wyoming. Statewide meetings in 2010 led to a comprehensive communications plan, which included an identity campaign, a new web site, a revamped social media presence and a full-color print magazine. The WAC also boosted the creative economy through its granting process, notably the Capacity Building Grants Program. The Folk and Traditional Arts Program planned the critically-acclaimed “Art of the Hunt” exhibit at the State Museum.

“The state’s art scene is expanding, in many ways, into avenues that were not thought of in 2010,” Lange said. “With this, the WAC needs to look different as well. We want to hear your comments to help shape what the next five years of the WAC will look like.”
