Wyoming State Museum celebrates state’s 125th anniversary with artifacts from the 1960s

The Wyoming State Museum’s 125^th Anniversary Exhibit has expanded with artifacts from the turbulent 1960s.

From Vietnam War and its divisive effect on the nation, to the burgeoning Civil Rights movement, this decade brought a lot of changes to the country and our state.

However, not all things during the 60s were about strife and conflict. One of the new objects in this week’s installation is a football commemorating the 1968 Sugar Bowl (see photo).

Although the University of Wyoming Cowboys football team did not win the Sugar Bowl that year, 1967-1968 was a great season. The Cowboys had the nation’s best rushing defense and finished the season ranked No. 5 in the nation.

The Wyoming State Museum is located at 2301 Central Avenue in Cheyenne. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Admission is free.
