Arts Learning

The Wyoming Arts Council is committed to advancing arts education across the state by supporting meaningful arts learning experiences in both schools and community settings. Through high-quality arts engagement, integration, and exploration, the Arts Council empowers learners of all ages and backgrounds to express themselves, deepen cultural understanding, and build stronger communities.

Arts learning provides the knowledge and skills needed to participate in the arts throughout a lifetime. It enhances literacy, fosters creative thinking, and strengthens connections between the arts, education, and community life.

The Arts Council promotes creativity through grants, educational outreach, partnerships with schools and organizations, and resources for arts educators.

Grant Opportunities for Arts Education

The Wyoming Arts Council offers grant funding to help schools and organizations enrich their arts programming. Funding may support:

  • Artist residencies or performances
  • Equipment purchases to grow or enhance arts programs
  • After-school or summer arts programs
  • Revitalization of inactive arts initiatives

For School Districts

School districts may apply for a Community Support Grant, which can fund multiple programs across schools or be tailored to the needs of a single school or student population. Depending on community size, some districts may also qualify for the Arts Access Grant. While the Council expects basic arts instruction to be provided as required by law, it also supports the launch or revitalization of innovative arts education efforts.

For Organizations

Nonprofits, arts centers, senior centers, and other organizations may apply for funding to support arts education programs, including in-school activities, after-school classes, community workshops, or artist-led summer camps. Organizations with ongoing programs should apply for the Community Support Grant.

Arts Education Resources

The Wyoming Arts Council provides resources to help educators, administrators, and organizations enhance arts learning experiences across grade levels and disciplines.

Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Toolkit

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015. It reauthorized the 50-year-old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), creating a long-term, stable federal policy that gives states additional flexibility and encourages innovation, while at the same time holding states accountable for results. The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was signed into law in 1965 by President Lyndon Baines Johnson, who believed that “full educational opportunity” should be “our first national goal.”
