Children’s book author Jon Scieszka has been named the first national ambassador for young people’s literature by the librarian of Congress, James Billington. The post carries no specific responsibilities; rather, Scieszka is expected to act as “an evangelist for reading.”
Scieszka is probably best known for his children’s books illustrated by Lane Smith. They include “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs,” “The Stinky Cheeseman and Other Fairly Stupid Tales,” and “Math Curse.” They are favorites among boy and girl readers.
