UW marks centennial of College of Education with “A Tribute to Teachers”

From a University of Wyoming press release:

A night of song, historical school fashion and celebration of the University of Wyoming College of Education’s centennial marks “A Tribute to Teachers,” scheduled Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the UW Education auditorium.

The event celebrates the College of Education’s 100th anniversary with “an old-fashioned, yet completely new variety show honoring teachers and the work they do, the clothes they wear and who they are,” says program coordinator Terry Burant, assistant lecturer in the UW Department of Educational Studies.

The hourlong event features a slide show highlighting historical teacher fashion, and narrated by former Superintendent of Public Instruction Judy Catchpole and College of Education Advisory Board President Larry Stewart.

Highlights also include a tribute to teachers in song, performed by the UW Lab School choir, and a “tribute to the ABC sweater, apple sweater and denim jumper in dance,” performed by dancers ranging in age from 7 to 72.

The event will close with the cutting of a 100th-anniversary birthday cake, accompanied by retired faculty member Tim Rush playing “Happy Birthday” on the harmonica.

Event sponsors are Kappa Delta Pi honorary, the Education Ambassadors, Student Wyoming Education Association and the College of Education Dean’s Office.
